Minecraft Is Addictive

Anyone who knows me much knows that I’ve always been a big video game player, and have been ever since I was very young. My latest love in gaming has been Minecraft and I find myself playing a LOT of it, and my kids are pretty into it also.

My in-game name is Bacon_Donut (I know, right?) and I decided I might as well put some content of my play on YouTube since I’m playing all the time anyway. I’m playing in hardcore mode which means that you only get one life or your world gets deleted. The new channel is http://youtube.com/baconminer and here is my first video:

Please share, and tell your friends! It’s nice to get back to some content creation, and feedback is welcome.

The new Sugar-Free Big-O

This has been a pretty huge month for me. Lots of changes are afoot. For the last several months I’ve not been feeling very well. I’ve had a horrible time managing my sleep apnea because they haven’t been able to find me a mask that works right on my head. So I’ve been very sleep deprived over the last several months, and it’s had a big impact on my work effectiveness, and with how much I’ve been able to do at home too. I had pretty much stopped doing all side work and all of my personal projects.

More recently though, I started feeling much worse. Especially the last two weeks. In the back of my mind I kept thinking “I’m sick”, but I had still been blaming it on the sleep issues because the symptoms were the same, just worse. I’ll save you the details of the story, but basically I went around to a bunch of specialists for the sleep and apnea related things and they all seemed to run out of ideas and weren’t very interested in helping me more.

So in desperation I went back to my family practice doctor and basically said “I don’t know if you can help me, but I’m desperate here. I’m afraid of losing my job if I don’t get some sleep, and the specialists aren’t helping”. He asked me a number of questions about my symptoms, and then came up with a great plan of attack. He told me to get second opinions from new specialists, and he gave me the referrals I needed to do that, and then he told me that he had some medication for alertness that might help me through work, but that he wanted to get some lab work done before he gave me that to make sure that nothing else was causing my drowsiness.

Before too long the lab results came back, and it turns out that I have diabetes. The additional “sickness” that I’ve been feeling was because my blood sugar was way too high. It’s high enough that I need a pill, but thankfully not high enough to require shots. And since it’s pretty clear in my case that weight is to blame, there’s a very high likelihood that if I lose weight and get in shape that I won’t even need the pills anymore.

So I’ve got a finger sticker now to take my blood sugar, and I’m going to see a dietitian later this month to find out more about what I’m supposed to be eating. But so far the pills are working great, and I am feeling a LOT better.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a huge foodie and this is going to create fundamental change to my diet. However, I’m determined though to actually make GOOD diabetic food, so I’ll probably be posting recipes on here as I find them.

A Barbershop Tag for Barton F. Graf 9000, LLC

Good luck Barney!!!!!

This tag is a modified version of “It’s a grand night for singing”. Vance Perry has a version of the tag over on his channel here, or you can see the full song here.

I like the song a lot and I’ve performed it before, so when Barton F. Graf 9000 approached me about doing this tag it was a good fit.

I didn’t get the video and audio perfectly synced, so sorry for that.

If you have a need for some kind of custom barbershop video, I’m open to it. Send me a message with details and I’ll consider it.

Wonderful and British you heard it from me
It’s gonna be great, you’ll see.

The Nashville Singers – Wait Till the Sun Shines Nellie – barbershop quartet

The barbershop quartet The Nashville Singers sing a classic barbershop tune, Wait Till The Sun Shines, Nellie, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, April 2010. It’s slightly modified from how it appears in the pole cat book, but only slightly. They won the DIX district competition in 2008 singing nothing but pole cat songs, and after hearing this I can see why. They knocked it out of the park!

You should recognize the tenor, Rick Spencer, from my video of Redline singing “Wonderful Tonight”. Redline is no longer together and this is Rick’s new quartet. They have already qualified for International, winning the DIX prelims in March and are ranked in top ten going into the contest!

MultiTrack recording with Garageband 09 Tutorial

In this tutorial I walk you through how to do multi track recording in Garageband 09. I’m not covering software instruments or MIDI, that will have to be a different tutorial.

Most of what I go over can be applied to previous and future versions of Garageband or other recording software as well, because there are always similarities with any multitrack software.

Multitrack Barbershop Tag – Sleepytime Down South

I’m back with another Multitrack Barbershop Tag! This is one of my all-time favorite barbershop tags and this video has turned out to be my most popular tag yet. It’s a great one for beginners because the lead only has two notes, the tenor isn’t very high and the bass isn’t very low. I’m not sure I got the video sync’d correctly, and I added some EQ, compression, and reverb but no pitch correction of any kind.
